INITIATED BY AGENCY (INVOLUNTARY)

An appointing authority may, after giving 5 working days notice, transfer an employee to another position in:

  • The same class; or
  • A comparable class with the Division of Human Resource Management's agreement.

Notice is not required if the transfer is for 10 days or less or in case of emergency (with the Division of Human Resource Management's agreement).

A permanent employee who refuses a transfer to a different geographical location has reemployment rights.

UNCLASSIFIED/NONCLASSIFIED POSITIONS

Movement from and to classified positions from unclassified or nonclassified positions is possible; however, there are time limits and impacts to benefits (e.g., leave accruals) relating to some types of transfers.  Contact your agency's human resources staff or the Division of Human Resource Management, Compensation, Classification & Recruitment staff for assistance.

RESTRICTION

An employee may not noncompetitively transfer to underfill a position at grade 30 or higher if the position is at a higher grade than the position the employee currently holds.
