AB 3 established two exceptions to the furlough requirement:
- A position of critical need as determined by an agency’s appointing authority and approved by the Board of Examiners; and
- Employees of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs with a standard workweek of 32 hours or less.
If an employee’s position is exempted from the furlough requirement, the employee’s salary will be reduced by 4.6 percent during the period between January 1, 2021, and June 30, 2021.
