HR Reference Guide

As of July 1, 2021, some State employees are covered under Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA), see the Division of Human Resource Management, Labor Relations Unit page for more information.  If you are in a job classification currently covered under a CBA, some of the terms and benefits of your employment may be different than the provisions outlined on this page. Please consult your CBA or agency's human resource for further information.

An accelerated hiring rate is appointing a new hire above step 1 of the grade for the position.

An accelerated hiring rate allows for adjusting the rate of pay for a position that may be filled on an open competitive basis in order to meet a difficult recruiting problem, employ a person with superior experience, or to maintain an equitable relationship among employees.

For initial and promotional appointments into classified positions at the State of Nevada through June 30, 2023, the appointing authority may have discretion to hire at the appropriate salary grade for the position, up to step 10, so long as they have the appropriate budgeted authority and the Department/Division fiscal staff has determined that the Department/Division has the ability to sustain the salary in the future.
